Job Summary
The Caretaker is responsible for the routine operation and upkeep of the Claude Larose Recreation Centre and municipal parks. Seasonal tasks include, but are not limited to, the preparation and marking of ice rinks for skating and hockey activities, and the operation of the Zamboni machine to clean and smooth ice surfaces. The Caretaker performs routine repairs and maintenance of the building and facilities. This role involves the general cleaning and upkeep of the recreation centre, both indoors and outdoors, and various maintenance tasks in municipal parks and cemeteries. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Parks & Recreation.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid non-probationary Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, in good standing
- Ability to work under adverse conditions
- Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and handle high-pressure situations
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
- Bilingualism is preferred (French/English)
- Ability to become proficient in the operation of a Zamboni and other departmental equipment
- Sound judgment and service excellence in dealing with the public and ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public and staff
Hours of Work
- Hours of work are determined as per Article 19 of the current Collective Agreement
- Work hours include evenings and weekends, based on operational and program needs
