OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR 

Full-time permanent role: Hearst, ON

Role Summary: The Operations Supervisor holds a pivotal role in supporting the success of our organization by effectively mobilizing and closely monitoring front line operations team members through effective people management and operational efficiency strategies. The scope entails overseeing the operations of both Hearst and Hornepayne locations, including 2 bulk plants, 1 warehouse, and 1 cardlock. This includes local and long-haul Delivery Drivers, Warehouse Technicians, Yard Attendants, general labourers etc. You will be empowered to ensure the seamless, safe, and punctual delivery of customer orders, while upholding a commitment to maintain accurate inventory records and comprehensive reporting systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Operations Management: Consider equipment, driver availability, and customer priority, to create a weekly delivery schedule. Review the electronic logging devices to ensure compliance with Transport Canada’s Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations and hours paid. Review weekly actual vs budget expenses. Implement processes and tools to increase productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Implement fuel management practices and promote safe and fuel-efficient driving behaviors through training and incentives. Oversee the production of windshield washer fluid.   

Fleet and Building Maintenance: Coordinate the preventative, planned, and unplanned building, office, and warehouse maintenance repair. Partner with the Maintenance Manager to schedule preventative, corrective, and scheduled maintenance of the fleet in collaboration. Efficiently manage unplanned breakdowns through collaboration with drivers and Operations Coordinators.  

Material and Inventory Management: Manage weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly bulk and warehouse inventory counts and validate reconciliation reports. Investigate and consolidate inventory discrepancies on a weekly basis.  

People Management: Ensure all reasonable precautions have been undertaken, to prevent injuries or accidents in the workplace. Lead regular safety meetings, mitigate risks by ensuring daily activities follow internal safety protocols and complete necessary investigation/reports. Proactively identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures to maintain a safe working environment. Lead by example and provide firsthand assistance to ensure operational efficiency. Lead all aspects of team member performance management: coaching, training, following the progressive discipline approach, performance appraisals, etc. Lead the recruiting, selecting, and onboarding of new hires.   

IDEAL CANDIDATE 

  • Location: Must live in Hearst, Ontario, or nearby areas. In-person/ onsite position only; no possibility of working from home or hybrid.  

  • Typical schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, included in the weekend on-call rotation or for emergencies.  

  • In-the field: 50% of the role is typically performed from the Hearst main office and warehouse. The remainder of the time is spent either doing ride along with drivers, visit other Pepco location with direct reports.  

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.  College degree in supply chain and/or operations management or equivalent preferred.  

  • License and Certification: Valid Class G license and clean driver’s abstract required.   Valid AZ or DZ License ideal but not necessary.  

  • Physical Requirements: Must have the physical capabilities and strength for lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. for occasional support with tasks in the warehouse and fuel deliveries.   

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in operations and/ or logistics, with at least 2 years of supervision. Multi-site supervision preferred. Knowledge of Transport Canada regulations and OHS Act. 

  • Technology: Experience with Microsoft 365 applications. Experience with electronic logging devices, preferred. 

  • Additional abilities: Preferably bilingual in French and English. Clear communicator, both verbal and written. Proven team management abilities: performance management, team mobilization, delegation of tasks, coaching, training. Analytical skills to problem-solve and coordinate difficult situations. Previous experience managing key performance indicators.
