Human Resources / Health and Safety Manager

About the position

Under the direction of the Owner/Pharmacist, the Human Resources/Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the overall occupational health and safety and human resources management process (employee recruitment, selection, training, performance evaluation and compensation). The person holding this position must foster a culture of teamwork, communication, respect, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
• Lead an annual health and safety / human resources audit and develop appropriate plans to ensure the effectiveness of company programs;
• Plan, develop, implement, coordinate and update Pharmacie Novena’s human resources and health and safety policies, procedures and programs;
• Manage the employee life cycle activities (recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, compensation and offboarding) and ensure company practices are in line with legal compliance;
• Provide leadership and coaching to managers and employees on key human resources / health and safety workplace matters;
• Create job descriptions and job postings for current and new positions as company grows;
• Manage all work-related and non-occupational illness leaves;
• Manage the Return-to-Work Program, working closely with the employee, his/her supervisor and the insurance company or WSIB;
• Coordinate the accident reporting / investigation process and inspections;
• Act as a resource person for the JHSC and participate in quarterly meetings;
• Prepare employee schedules and collaborate with managers to ensure appropriate coverage is always maintained;
• Review vacation and time-off requests;
• Manage the attendance program; maintain staffing reports (i.e. vacation, sick days, etc.), coach and support supervisors in finding solutions to employee chronic absenteeism;
• Oversee the progressive discipline process to address performance, conduct and policy violation issues;
• Stay up to date with legislation and communicate pertinent changes to senior management and employees;
• Participate in various training and committees to stay informed and compliant;
• Monitor, amend and update the company’s Employee Handbook;
• Support, promote and participate in employee wellness initiatives such as the social committee.

• Organization - Create or maintain processes to ensure all relevant information or tools are easily accessible
• Professionalism – Deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
• Teamwork - Work cooperatively and effectively with others to reach a common goal
• Time Management - Balance a myriad of tasks; prioritize duties as needed

Qualifications:
• Post secondary education in Human Resources Management, Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study;
• Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is an asset;
• Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant work experience in a human resources, health and safety or management role;
• JHSC member certification;
• Strong knowledge of current employment law matters and health and safety legislation;
• Knowledge of WSIB and LTD processes and return to work programs;
• Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, Power Point and e-mail required;
• Bilingual: French and English required.
Work Schedule:
• Thirty-five (35) to forty (40) hours / week, Monday to Friday
